In Partnership with Zeidler Architecture
In partnership with Zeidler Architecture, Two Row Architect is working on the design of a new Community Conservation campus for the Toronto Zoo, in the role of Indigenous architect. The addition will include a new guest services and a community building. Research facilities, a theatre hall, and commercial and event spaces are also planned for the campus as the next stage in the Zoo’s economic development. Green roofing, energy-efficient materials and systems are planned to meet sustainability goals. Principles derived from Two Row Architect’s Indigenous consultation sessions included making the space more welcoming and less institutional, providing space for Elders and families, incorporation of Indigenous languages, storytelling, teachings and culture into the design, along with their visual representation, and a healing garden that will welcome future visitors.
