MISSISSAUGA HEALTH AND ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

Mississauga #8 First Nation

Blind River, ON

$1.6 Mil. CAD

Occupied 1996

This project was coordinated to bring together a variety to community services within one facility. The client group included representatives of the First Nation and Health Canada unit representatives. The facility was to accommodate three programming groups; the health component, the band administration component and services and counselling.

The building’s form and layout is derived from the shape of an eagle with outstretched wings, a symbol held in high esteem amongst Native peoples. The interior planning achieves optimal accessibility and security of each program area by creating “zones”. Each zone is connected by corridor space to each other and is secured by carefully positioned means of egress.
