The mandate was to design a school that reflected the heritage of theSix Nations community. The turtle was identified by the client as a symbol of creation as well as a clan division. Rather than reject a notion that was not historically authentic, several gestures were made in reference to this important cultural icon which included a generous roof with sweeping overhangs and a sculptural entrance canopy.
